FDIC: 2022 Community Bankers Workshop

The FDIC & the Idaho Bankers Association are pleased to invite the officers of your bank to attend the 2022 Community Bankers Workshop. The workshop is designed to help bank executive and mid-level officers, both new and experienced, stay abreast of the ever-changing business, economic, and regulatory environment. The workshop will be led by seasoned risk management and compliance field examiners and supervisors from the San Francisco Region (Region).

Examination staff will share information on a variety of hot topics (see below) so don’t miss this opportunity to speak directly with FDIC regional directors, field supervisors, examiners and specialists on their expectations regarding compliance risk.

Who Should Attend?  Executive and mid-level bank officers. In particular, CFOs, BSA, Compliance, and IT officers may be interested in the various breakout sessions. Bank directors may wish to attend if they are interested in detailed information on the instruction topics

Topics Included

  • Cybersecurity Overview and Ransomware Tabletop Exercise
  • This session will cover current trends in cybersecurity, including emerging threats and cyber-crime/fraud statistics. The session will also cover industry preparedness and best practices for financial institutions, as well as highlighting the importance of business continuity efforts in relation to cybersecurity events. The final portion of the session will include a tabletop exercise focusing on a mock ransomware incident at a bank and the different roles and responsibilities of directors, officers, and IT personnel. Target Audience: Directors, Officers, IT Managers
  • IT Lessons Learned from the Pandemic – COVID Morphed Over Time, Did You?
  • This session will be interactive and include presentation elements and discussion topics from participants on the IT lessons learned from the pandemic. Key topics will include such items as the importance of business continuity preparation and tests; balancing security and operations in a rapidly changing/evolving environment; implementing perimeter security with an ever-expanding perimeter; best practices for accessing, transmitting, and storing data remotely; and the recently issued FFIEC guidance on authentication. Target Audience: Directors, Officers, IT Managers
  • Deploying Excess Capital and Liquidity – Risks and Rewards
  • Many banks in the San Francisco Region find themselves with ample capital and liquidity and are looking for ways to deploy those resources. We will explore the appropriate corporate governance surrounding entering into new business lines, including regulatory expectations. We will also discuss industry trends. Target Audience: Directors and Officers
  • Innovation- Risk Management and Consumer Protection Considerations
  • This session will focus on innovation and some of the key risk management and consumer protection considerations that should be taken into account when implementing new or growing technologies, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, alternative data, crypto/digital assets, real-time payments, and Fintech partnerships. Target Audience: Officers, IT Managers, Compliance Officers
